The MOTD Nostalgia Tour makes its stop at Mt. Cardigan. After scoping out the AMC Cardigan Lodge, we began our hike up the very steep Holt Trail, eventually making our way to the summit. The fire tower was open, so we poked our heads in and talked to the ranger for a little while before descending on the clark trail.
From the ranger cabin, we took the Hurricane Gap Trail to Hi-Cabin, after a side trip to the South Peak summit. From Hi-Cabin, we rejoined the clark trail, and took the Holt-Clark cutoff to Grand Junction, which took us back to the lodge.
On a personal note, it was quite coincidental that this trip occurred 15 years to the day after my first trip to Mt. Cardigan with my eighth grade class. (October 6-9, 1987).
What will be the next stop on the Nostalgia Tour? Mt Ascutney? Or a ski trip to Temple Mountain? Stay tuned.
